Bruce Davis would like to end search
Senior defensive end Bruce Davis is not shy with his words or opinions. After yesterday's practice in Las Vegas he was very direct in who he thinks should be the next UCLA football coach.
This is your last football game as a Bruin. What are your thoughts about that?
Davis: "I want to go out on top. We have been through so much at this school. I just want to win. Not only for me and not only for my teammates and the families of my teammates, but I want to win this game for coach Dewayne Walker.
"Let's not beat around the bush, I want Coach Walker to have this job. He deserves this job from what he did to come in here and change this defense around. It was like night and day.
"We were second to the last rated defense in the entire nation and he came around and at one point he had us in the top 10. So he's taken a defense that people counted out and said were horrible now he has four All-Americans and six all-conference players.
"That's enough said about him. Coach Walker deserves this job. He has a plan. He has studied under some of the best coaches in the game of football. He has his plan together. He knows what he wants and he demands excellence and that's what he gets.
"I want to go out there and put on a show for him. I want to go light it up out there so there will be doubt that the next coach should be.
When you first met Coach Walker, we were told that you walked into his office and will let's just say that he liked your guts. What can you tell us about that first meeting?
Davis: "I walked into his office and told him I have been going back and forth from defensive end and linebacker. I told him I wanted to be a linebacker and some other stuff. After I was done with my story he just kind of gave his kind of normal okay then we had our closed door meeting and he had did different plans for me from the get go.
"It wasn't a very pleasant meeting, but he got what he wanted and now I have what I wanted so it worked out for the best.
