October 26, 2009 The top seven teams in the JCGridiron.com Dirty 30 rankings remained intact over the weekend as all of the teams won their respective games and looked good in doing so. The latest program to move into the top-10 was Bakersfield (Calif.) Bakersfield College, who stands at 7-1 on the season with the lone loss coming against No. 1 El Camino.One more program from Northern California fell from the ranks of unbeaten over the weekend as College of San Mateo lost a close battle with rival Foothill College, 28-27. The Owls moved back on to the big board at No. 23 for the week while San Mateo dropped to No. 25 with the loss. More shakeup continued in Southern California as Ventura continued to impress, beating College of the Canyons 23-6. The lone loss for the Pirates on the season was a one-point defeat against No. 14 Cerritos, and they rose to No. 18 in the rankings as a result. Saddleback continued its freefall as they fell to No. 11 Fullerton College 22-13 on Saturday. The Gauchos have dropped 23 spots in three weeks while the Hornets have grabbed control of the rugged National Division Southern Conference, beating No. 12 Grossmont and No. 28 Saddleback in successive weeks. Fullerton's lone tough game remaining on the schedule comes this week when they face off against No. 13 Palomar College. A win against the Comets would likely vault them into the top-10 and likely give them the division crown. Two major conferences will be determined this weekend when the Jayhawk Conference and Southwest Junior College Football Conference have four teams in the top seven in the nation squaring off for their conference regular season title. No. 3 Blinn will travel to No. 4 Navarro in a battle that could have national title implications while No. 5 Fort Scott will host No. 7 Butler with the same fate potentially riding on the line. In both cases, the conferences will start the playoffs the following week with the teams likely to face one another again in the conference playoffs in November. Nine teams remain undefeated on the season with the top-5 all boasting unblemished records. Numbers 14-20 have five other teams with undefeated records, led by Cerritos College (7-0) at No. 14. The Falcons face College of the Desert this weekend before facing No. 8 Mt San Antonio and No. 1 El Camino to close out the regular season. No. 15 Grand Rapids (7-0) heads to the Midwest Football Conference playoffs starting this weekend where they will have an opportunity for two more wins before a potential bowl game. No. 17 Los Angeles Harbor College (7-0) is looking like a sure bet to qualify for the Southern California playoffs, with three games remaining on the schedule that are all very winnable. Rochester (MN) comes in at No. 20 after improving to 9-0 on the season.
