Kansas State place kicker Brooks Rossman has been named the Big 12 Conference Special Teams Player of the Week after his performance against Colorado, the league office has announced.

The award is the first for Rossman and marked the third time this season that a Kansas State player has been honored by the conference office. The Wildcats have now had one offensive, one defensive and one special teams player garner Big 12 weekly honors this season.

After sitting out 2006 due to NCAA transfer rules, Rossman has not shown any signs of rust from his year off as he is the leading place kicker in the Big 12 and tied for second nationally with a 2.17 field-goal-per-game average.

The San Diego, Calif., product nailed 4-of-5 field goals against Colorado last week, including a career-long 52 yarder to close out the first half, and became the first Wildcat to make four field goals in a game since Joe Rheem converted four against Louisiana-Lafayette on Sept. 18, 2004. Furthermore, his 81.2 percentage (13-of-16) is tops in the conference.

Through six games this season, Rossman is a perfect 9-of-9 from 20-39 yards, while he is 4-of-7 from 40-yards out. His 13 field goals this season are tied for the sixth-most in school history and he needs just four more to move into a tie for fourth place.

Kansas State returns to action on Saturday as the Wildcats travel to Stillwater, Okla., for a conference showdown with Oklahoma State. Kickoff is set for 6:05 p.m. at Boone Pickens Stadium.
