Griggs set to emerge

In the Class of 2008, Iowa found a big, athletic tight end from Piscataway, New Jersey, named J.D. Griggs. Now, the Hawkeyes may be returning to the same high school this year to look at a big, athletic safety. This time around, it is J.D.'s younger brother, Malcolm Griggs, who is receiving quite a bit of early recruiting interest in the Class of 2010.

Among those currently interested in the 6-foot-2, 183-pound Grigg sare Iowa, Ohio State, Pitt, West Virginia, Penn State, Oregon, and Rutgers. Most of the talk at this point has centered around playing defensive back or wide receiver.

Griggs actually plays quarterback at Piscataway where he threw for 1,342 yards and 19 touchdowns last year in leading the team to an 11-1 record. Since he will likely be playing another position in college, he plans to hit the camp circuit this summer in order to prove his skills and versatility.

Earlier this month, Griggs traveled out to Iowa City with his family to watch his older brother at work in spring practice with the Hawkeyes. The trip gave the junior, who also visited Rutgers and West Virginia this off-season, a chance to catch up with the Iowa coaching staff. The two plan to remain in touch as the recruiting process plays itself out in the upcoming months.
