Griggs seeing more interest
The month of June has arrived and with that the start of the camp circuit for many of the nation's top universities, including Ohio State. Hundreds of campers will be heading to Columbus (Ohio) for one of two senior advanced camps hoping to impress the coaching staff enough to walk away with an elusive Ohio State offer. One of those players is Piscataway (N.J.) safety Malcolm Griggs.
The 6-foot-2, 183-pounder has made it no secret that he is very interested in the Buckeyes. Former Buckeye Malcolm Jenkins went to the same high school and has been in Griggs' ear about the Buckeyes and what the program has to offer.
"Their tradition, they are a winning program and all of the people that they put in the NFL," Griggs said. "Malcolm (Jenkins) told me that it is a great education there too. That you will get a good education and also get to play some good football."
But the Buckeyes are not alone on Griggs' radar with another school from the state of Ohio starting to show some love to the big free safety.
"Things are going really well," Griggs said. "I already have an offer from Akron and Cincinnati said that they are offering but the coaches said that they just want to see my film a little bit more. I am going out there in three weeks so I think I will be offered there."
It will be a busy week for Griggs who will be getting out to be seen by several programs.
"That whole week I will have the Pittsburgh camp and then I will hit Cincinnati and then I have the Ohio State camp all that week," Griggs said.
In an earlier update Griggs stated that both the Buckeyes and the Pitt Panthers were his top two schools. Have things changed in light of some additional interest from other schools?
"They are basically at the same spot but now Cincinnati is in the equation for my top schools," Griggs said. "Those are the top three schools that I am considering going to."
Coach Darrell Hazell has been running point for the Buckeyes on the recruitment of Griggs. The Ohio State receivers coach has strong ties in the state of New Jersey and often draws the assignment of covering that state as part of his recruiting responsibilities.
Griggs' junior year tape highlights him at the quarterback position but programs have definitely identified him as a safety. What should recruiting fans take out of what they have seen from Griggs when they try to envision him on the other side of the ball?
"(My) leadership and football savvy, I know a lot about the game of football," Griggs said. "And (mental) toughness basically, I am not a guy that likes to lose so I will always bring a winning attitude to the team."
