B2G offers intriguing position battles

MORE B2G: Info page

Rivals.com West analyst Adam Gorney will be in attendance over the next three days at the B2G Elite Camp at UCLA. Here are five questions Gorney has heading into the camp:

1. Who will emerge as the top offensive lineman?

Lots of positions are loaded at the B2G camp but we're most interested to see if anyone can overtake Joshua Garnett through the three-day event. Garnett, rated No. 22 in the 2012 class, was outstanding last weekend at the Seattle NIKE Camp and edged Zach Banner for top honors.

Both Garnett and Banner are expected at the B2G camp, as are many other top offensive linemen including Erik Magnuson and Jordan Simmons, who are rated No. 34 and No. 45, respectively.

Magnuson, a Michigan commit, was great at the Stanford NIKE Camp and the Asante Trenchmen Academy this spring, and Simmons has been performing well for years. He has been to B2G camps before and he was an immovable object at the Los Angeles NIKE Camp.

Garnett has solidified himself as one of the top offensive linemen in the 2012 class. Now he'll have to prove it in back-to-back weekends and that could be a challenge.

2. Which wide receivers will look the best?

Darreus Rogers and Kenny Lawler have been on fire this spring as Rogers dominated the Big Man on Campus Under the Lights 7-on-7 last weekend in Carson, Calif., and Lawler was almost unstoppable at the recent Dana Hills Air Strike Passing Tournament.

Will they be able to continue their dominance against a solid group of defensive backs? The camp will also be an opportune time to check out Gabriel Marks again and see where his recruitment stands. Seeing Washington commit Tairen Owens for the first time this spring will be important along with finding some possible sleepers.

3. Can any defensive linemen make a name for themselves?

The offensive line group is so loaded that it could be tough for the defensive linemen - or it could be their chance to really emerge as a national recruit. Defensive end Jaylen Ruiz is a top 2013 prospect who has looked good at multiple events this spring and Inglewood (Calif.) prospect Chauntez Jackson was impressive at times at the Los Angeles NIKE Camp.

Los Angeles Dorsey's Justin Johnson and Inglewood's Darien Barrett have emerged as two of the top defensive linemen from the city. Barrett recently committed to San Diego State.

4. Which linebacker has the most tools?

The linebacker group is loaded and we're excited to find out which ones will truly stand out.

Top names include Murrieta (Calif.) Vista Murrieta's Jeremy Castro, Temecula (Calif.) Chaparral's Joe Robinson, Anaheim (Calif.) Servite's Butch Pauu, North Torrance (Calif.) recruit Ryan McDaniel, who just picked up an offer from USC and Los Angeles Dorsey's Jeremiah Allison.

Culver City (Calif.) prospect Khalil Pettway has been outstanding at numerous camps and is starting to pick up offers from across the country. Castro and McDaniel have really emerged as two of the biggest names in California with big-time Pac-12 offers. Who will truly be the most consistent linebacker all weekend?

5. Can any top-rated defensive back really emerge from the pack?

Another standout position group at the B2G camp will be defensive backs where Compton (Calif.) Dominguez's Brandon Beaver, Pasadena (Calif.) Muir's Kevon Seymour, Gardena (Calif.) Serra's Raymond Ford, Boise State commit Chaz Anderson and 2013 prospect Steven Mitchell are expected to work out.

Miami Columbus safety Deon Bush is expected in Los Angeles and he could be one of the top overall players at the entire event. Seth Jacobs also has a bunch of offers and could be one of the standouts.

Seymour has a big reputation and this could be his chance to really emerge as a national recruit. It should be a great group to watch over the three days.
