Dirty 30 title still wide open
With the season heading towards the home stretch, a ton of programs are still in the hunt for the JCGridiron Dirty 30 national title. Big battles this week will likely drop a few from contention.
The top two teams in the rankings were off last week and the rest of the top-10 was in action. No. 3 Riverside City streaked past Palomar (38-3) to remain as the top team on the West Coast. The Tigers get a tough one this week when they host No. 7 Mt. San Antonio College in a game certain to have playoff ramifications. The loser will get their first blemish of the season.
A great crossover battle looms as No. 2 Iowa Western will host No. 13 Butler. Iowa Western is coming off a bye week while Butler scored a big win over previous top-10 Iowa Central on Saturday (41-24).
The Southwest Junior College Football Conference has a big matchup this weekend when No. 9 Trinity Valley hosts No. 16 Kilgore. TVCC is coming off a big win over No. 26 Navarro and their lone loss of the season came in week one to No. 12 Snow. A win would give the Cardinals a huge lift towards a SWJCFC title.
The biggest matchup in Northern California could come when No. 4 San Mateo travels to No. 18 Diablo Valley. The Bulldogs turned back Laney last weekend (20-8) to remain unbeaten while upstart DVC cruised past Chabot (33-13). A win by the Vikings would certainly juggle the Northern California rankings.
The Mississippi ranks looks like race to the finish line between No. 5 Northwest and No. 6 Jones. Both remain undefeated and neither should get much of a test this weekend as Northwest hosts No. 48 Holmes and Jones travels to unranked Mississippi Delta.
No. 39 Minnesota State wrapped up a perfect regular season and continues to look like the team to beat in the MCAC playoffs. The Spartans open the playoffs this Sunday in the MCAC Quarterfinals.
Here is the rest of the JCGridiron Dirty 30 Rankings. Just a reminder, the Dirty 30 Rankings do not include games against club teams, prep schools, non-CCCAA, non-NJCAA or non-HJCAC programs in its rankings/records.
