Familiar face takes over top spot

The 2021 season is heading into the home stretch and East Mississippi College has once again emerged as one of the favorites to win the 17th annual JCGridiron Dirty 30 title. The Lions take over the top spot in the rankings after winning the Mississippi North championship this past week.

East Mississippi is now 7-0 for the year and the latest victim was Coahoma (52-6). The Lions will travel to No. 52 Copiah-Lincoln this Thursday. EMCC has won four Dirty 30 titles in the past, winning outright in 2011, 2014 and 2018 and sharing the title with Butte College (CA) in 2013. The Lions led 42-0 at the half this past week in cruising to a win.

San Mateo jumped up a spot and back to No. 3 in the rankings after improving to 6-0 in the Northern California ranks. The Bulldogs have outscored opponents 239-53 this season and massacred San Joaquin Delta this past weekend (62-0). They host No. 45 Laney this weekend, but still have a huge date with No. 5 San Francisco on the final weekend of the regular season.

The Jayhawk Conference is likely a two-team race between No. 6 Independence (6-0) and No. 7 Coffeyville (5-0). Much like the NorCal ranks, those two squads will meet on the final weekend of the regular season with a rare Sunday game on Halloween.

The Southern California ranks are going to be a wild ride. No. 8 Ventura and No. 10 Canyons play in the same league (National Northern) and will play on September 6. Both will have to play No. 34 Allan Hancock (5-1) along the way, which could provide some drama. The National Southern League has also gotten interesting as No. 21 Golden West, No. 26 San Diego Mesa and No. 30 Fullerton will sort things out over the next four weeks. The National Central appears to be a battle between No. 23 El Camino, No. 25 Riverside City and No. 28 Mt. San Antonio.

The Southwest Junior College Football Conference is currently controlled by No. 12 New Mexico Military. The Broncos improved to 6-0 this past weekend and still have big dates with No. 33 Cisco and No. 20 Trinity Valley.

The Minnesota Conference is led by No. 36 North Dakota State College of Science, who improved to 8-0 this weekend. They have one game remaining on the regular season before heading to the playoffs. No. 49 Itasca has one loss on the season, losing to NDSCS in week four (23-33).

The rest of the Dirty 30 Rankings follow. Just a reminder, the Dirty 30 Rankings do not include games against club teams, prep schools, non-CCCAA, non-NJCAA or non-HJCAC programs in its rankings.
