Gulf Coast still at No. 2 in latest rankings
With just a handful of games remaining on the Mississippi schedule, Gulf Coast remains the top-ranked team from the Magnolia State after improving to 4-0 last week. The Bulldogs now have their biggest challenge of the season waiting on deck.
Gulf Coast rolled past Southwest on Friday night by a score of 40-3. The Bulldogs piled up 497 yards of offense as Philip Short threw for 323 yards and three scores while Jalen Bracey had 131 yards receiving and a score.
Next up for Gulf Coast is a matchup with No. 12 Jones, who hasn’t played in a couple of weeks due to COVID concerns. A win by Jones could create some tricky playoff scenarios.
Northwest moved up one spot to No. 7 in the rankings with a 41-13 win against Holmes. The Rangers had 530 yards offense in the game, with quarterback Michael Hiers throwing for 337 yards and four scores. Northwest finishes up the regular season at home against Delta on Thursday.
Hinds moved up to No. 10 in the rankings with a 34-14 win against Pearl River. The Bulldogs jumped out to a 21-0 lead and never looked back. Hinds had 479 yards of offense as Dajon Richard rushed 157 yards on the ground. Hinds has no more games on the schedule and awaits a playoff announcement.
Northeast Mississippi is enjoying its best season in years and moved up to No. 21 in the Dirty 30 Rankings with a 31-21 win against Itawamba. It is unclear as to whether or not Northeast has any games remaining on the schedule, as the playoff picture has not been clear coming out of Mississippi. At 5-1 on the season, they have the third best record in the state, which should account for something.
The Hohokam Junior College Athletic Conference had one game of consequence on Saturday as Gila River outgunned Maricopa, 43-26. The Hawks are now 2-0 and moved up to No. 38 in the rankings with the win. Gila River will travel to No. 53 Papago on Saturday while No. 50 Maricopa will host Sonoran.
The rest of the JCGridiron.com Dirty 30 Rankings follow. Just a reminder, the Dirty 30 Rankings do not include games against club teams, non-CCCAA, non-NJCAA or non-HJCAC programs in its rankings.
