Hutch takes over top spot
The Hutchinson Blue Dragons took over the top spot in the weekly JCGridiron Dirty 30 Rankings this week after an impressive win over Iowa Central College. The Blue Dragons have outscored their opponents 141-15 for the year.
It’s hard to imagine a better start than Hutch has had. The Blue Dragons have been stifling teams on defense while running up the score on the other side of the ball. This past week they shut down Iowa Central, 27-2, behind three interceptions from Ryan Nolan. Hutch finally gets a week off after an early start to the year.
The Mississippi ranks had one stunning result when Copiah-Lincoln nipped the previously top-ranked East Mississippi squad, 23-20. The Wolves had 416 yards against an EMCC defense that was supposed to be one of the best in the nation. Co-Lin moved all the way up to No. 9 in the rankings as a result of the win while East Mississippi dropped to No. 12. Copiah-Lincoln gets Mississippi Delta on Thursday while East Mississippi has another brutal test against No. 3 Jones.
Mt. San Antonio College sent a message to the folks in Southern California with a 65-24 bludgeoning of previous top-5, Ventura. The Mounties moved all the way up to No. 5 as a result after torching the Pirates with 662 yards of offense. Mt. SAC will host Allan Hancock this weekend.
Iowa Western sent Garden City searching for answers after beating the Broncbusters, 44-27, in an important Jayhawk/Iowa crossover game. Iowa Western moved up to No. 4 in the rankings with the win while 1-2 Garden City is not off to the start they had hoped for. Iowa Western now hosts No. 39 Highland while Garden City will take out some frustration on a non-affiliated prep school (Gordon’s Fine Arts Academy Prep).
