Magnolia stage is set

The stage has been set in the state of Mississippi, where Gulf Coast will face Northwest for the MACCC title on December 5. The two clubs will play for all the marbles in the Magnolia State, with national title hopes potentially riding on the line.

It is unknown when a national champion will be named due to the uncertainty of play throughout the rest of the country in the spring. Nonetheless, one of these two teams will try to make their case when they hook up for the Mississippi state title.

Gulf Coast and Northwest both made a statement last weekend. The biggest roar came from Gulf Coast, who blasted rival Jones with a resounding 35-8 victory on Thursday night. The Bulldogs moved back up to No. 1 in the Dirty 30 Rankings with the win and seem to be hitting their stride after a sluggish start. Gulf Coast held Jones to just 11 first downs in the game and held a 526-199 advantage in total yardage at the final bell. Philip Short has arguably his best game of the season, throwing for 362 yards and four touchdowns against what was supposed to be one of the better defenses in the state. Deondre House and Jalen Bracey continued their assault on defenses with House rushing for 150 yards and Bracey catching 10 balls for 158 yards.

Northwest mopped up on Delta, 44-8, and with the win secured the North Division title for the second straight season. The Rangers moved up to No. 5 in the Dirty 30 Rankings with the win after posting 537 yards of offense. Michael Hiers threw for 244 yards and three scores while Jaquerrious Williams had 145 all-purpose yards from scrimmage. It is the second straight year that Northwest will play Gulf Coast for the MACCC title.

Out in Arizona in the Hohokam Junior College Athletic Conference, Gila River improved to 3-0 with a 35-8 win against Papago. The River Hawks moved up to No. 37 in the rankings as a result and if they can continue winning could become the first HJCAC program to ever break into the top-30. Maricopa scored a 28-6 win against Sonoaran and moved up one spot to No. 49 in the rankings with a win.

The rest of the JCGridiron.com Dirty 30 Rankings follow. Just a reminder, the Dirty 30 Rankings do not include games against club teams, non-CCCAA, non-NJCAA or non-HJCAC programs in its rankings.
