Marquee matchups on tap

After a long delay, the waiting is finally over for the beginning of the 2020-21 spring season of football. With the Dirty 30 Rankings being in limbo for nearly 3.5 months, it’s finally time to get the ball rolling again.

The opening weekend of spring ball won’t disappoint, as six games will feature teams that are both listed in the rankings.

The Jayhawk will have a heavyweight battle out of the gate when #9 Butler travels to #11 Independence in a game that could have national championship implications. With a lighter schedule than normal during the spring, a loss could quickly dash any hopes of making a run at Northwest Mississippi for the 16th JCGridiron Dirty 30 title. Another Jayhawk battle will feature #23 Coffeyville at #13 Hutchinson. Both games will take place on Friday.

The #20 Snow Badgers will start their traveling road show on Saturday when they head to #8 Iowa Western in a crossover battle between the independent Badgers and the ICCAC’s Reivers. Snow will be looking to shake off a 54-13 thumping in October of 2019 and try to return to the form they had when beating the Reivers 19-17 in the Graphic Edge Bowl in December of 2018.

The SWJCFC has a ton of great early-season matchups this weekend as three marquee matchups will take place on Saturday. Perhaps the most significant will be #14 Blinn traveling to #21 Kilgore, with the Buccaneers looking for revenge after a 49-7 massacre in 2019. #21 Tyler has had back-to-back 3-4 seasons in SWJCFC play and heads to #38 Navarro after falling 42-37 to the Bulldogs in 2019. Another tight battle should be expected when #36 Trinity Valley heads to #40 Northeastern Oklahoma in a border war.
