McNeil leads the list of Pro Style Quarterbacks

The season has started to wind down and some of the quarterbacks are entering their final weeks of junior college football. With a handful of games remaining, this is the JCGridiron.com Pro Style Quarterback Rankings for the class of 2020.

The quarterback position has changed dramatically in recent years and much of the attention has been on guys that can run or throw on the run as offenses attempt to stretch defenses. Pro style quarterbacks still have a value, however, if they can use their legs to move in the pocket or break containment and throw on the run.

The class of 2020 looks very deep at quarterback, filled with both dual threat and a pro style quarterbacks. This is a look at the top-20 Pro Style Quarterbacks, according to JCGridiron.com.

THE TOP-5

Navarro’s Parker McNeil looks like a classic pro style quarterback as he stands 6-foot-5 and 220 pounds. At No. 1 in our rankings, McNeil has had a second solid year under center for the Bulldogs, completing over 65% of his passes while throwing for nearly 340 yards-per-game. McNeil had a couple of lower-level offers following his freshman season and opted to return in hopes of bigger and better things. Unfortunately, that really hasn’t transpired yet, as McNeil is still waiting for that one big offer. On film, McNeil has very good touch on the long balls and moves well in the pocket, with the ability to break free and throw on the run.

East Mississippi’s Connor Neville is no stranger to D1 recruiting as he spent two seasons at Washington State before opting to leave Pullman. Now at EMCC, Neville has two years remaining at the D1 level and needs to make it count. He has seen interest from a number of high-profile schools, including Oregon State, Houston, West Virginia as well as Troy, New Mexico, Western Kentucky and Louisiana-Monroe. At 6-foot-2 and 205 pounds, he isn’t a classic pocket guy, but in today’s world of football not many are looking for them. Neville has completed 64% of his passes with 17 touchdowns, and on film has a great touch downfield, wonderful footwork with the arm strength to get a ball into a tight spot. Neville comes in at No. 2 in the rankings.

Another from the Mississippi ranks is Northwest’s Jack Walker. At No. 3 in our rankings, Walker is big and thick at 6-foot-3 and 230 pounds. Walker plays in a run-first offense at Northwest, but has picked his spots and completed 57% of his passes with 16 touchdowns against five interceptions. Walker has offers from Illinois State, Campbell and Austin Peay, and has been talking to Rice, South Alabama and Troy. Like the aforementioned Neville, Walker is no stranger to D1 football as he spent some time at Georgia State before arriving in Senatobia. On film, Walker is another with great touch on the deeper passes and has the footwork to avoid rushers in the pocket.

At No. 4 in the rankings is San Bernardino Valley’s Jeremy Moussa, who has been lighting up the lower-tier ranks in Southern California. Moussa is big and athletic at 6-foot-4 and 215 pounds and has thrown for 2,250 yards and 24 touchdowns in his first six games of the season. Although it is hard to tell how lower-tier football in SoCal translates to the D1 field, scouts have started paying attention as UCLA, Tennessee, Oregon State, Vanderbilt and Western Kentucky have started to inquire about his availability. Moussa spent a season at Hawaii and should be able to leave with three years remaining eligibility, which is an added plus. His film shows a guy that has sensational athleticism for his size, with the ability to throw on the run. The obvious concern is a completion that hovers around 53%, but with lesser talent around him he has been forced to improvise throughout the year.

Mississippi Gulf Coast has had a tremendous start to the season and one of the big reasons is quarterback Chance Lovertich. At 5-foot-11 and 195 pounds, he isn’t a classic pro style quarterback by any means. However, Lovertich is one of those guys that just finds a way to make it work and a handful of small schools have started to pay attention. At No. 5 in our rankings, Lovertich is completing 65% of his passes and has thrown 20 touchdowns playing in an offense that runs the ball 60% of the time. On film, Lovertich has good zip on the out patterns and moves well in the pocket. He’ll be a good find!
