No change at the top
The 2023 season is nearing the halfway point and things started to settle down with the Dirty 30 Rankings this past week. The top-5 all remained the same after wins over the weekend.
Iowa Western scored a dominating win over Ellsworth, running up the score on the Panthers 42-7. Iowa Western is now 5-0 to start and comes in at No. 4 in the rankings. The Reivers now get a trap game against No. 45 Independence before tough battles on the road against No. 21 Snow and No. 10 Butler.
The Mississippi ranks appear to be the conference that could be up for grabs. The top-ranked team at this point is Gulf Coast, who comes in at No. 6 after a 55-33 win against Southwest. The Bulldogs now get No. 8 East Mississippi in Scooba, which should be a good one.
The Southwest Junior College Football Conference has the makings of a Rubik’s Cube. Tyler is currently the top-ranked team at No. 15 after Kilgore stumbled against Navarro last weekend. Tyler is 3-1 and hosts NEO this weekend. Trinity Valley (2-1) is No. 17 and has a bye. New Mexico Military (2-2) comes in at No. 24 and also has a bye. Kilgore (3-1) dropped to No. 30 with the loss while Navarro (2-2) rose to No. 28.
California started league play in the southern half of the state last weekend and all of the favorites held their ground. No. 3 Mt. San Antonio (4-0), No. 5 Riverside City (4-0) and No. 9 Fullerton (4-0) look like the favorites down south. The north is also very tight. San Francisco (4-0) comes in at No. 2 in the rankings while defending national champ San Mateo is No. 7.
The Jayhawk Conference has the game of the week this week when top-ranked Hutchinson travels to No. 10 Butler.
