Something is a buzz out west

The 2022 season is entering the final phases, and just a handful of games remain. The NJCAA and CCCAA ranks have both entered their own version final four, with the Dirty 30 title still up in the air.

The California ranks started the playoffs this past weekend and with two weeks remaining have a trio of teams still in the mix. No. 2 Riverside City will host No. 3 Fullerton in the Southern California championship game while No. 5 San Mateo will host No. 18 American River for the Northern California title.

Fullerton jumped up two spots with a 45-41 win against No. 8 Mt. San Antonio. The Hornets have been red hot, winning nine straight heading into the weekend. Fullerton split the 2016 Dirty 30 title with Garden City College (KS) while Riverside City was the 2019 Dirty 30 national champions.

The NJCAA ranks will kick up the playoffs this weekend with No. 1 Hutchinson hosting No. 4 Coffeyville on Saturday and No. 6 Northwest hosting No. 7 Iowa Western on Sunday. The two winners will play in the NJCAA title game on December 14 in Arkansas.

In other NJCAA bowl games No. 13 New Mexico Military will host No. 17 Lackawanna in the Sinclair Wool Bowl on Friday while No. 25 Butler and No. 11 Kilgore will face off in the TIPS-CHAMPS Heart of Texas Bowl on Saturday. No. 14 Trinity Valley will also head to Iowa for the Game One Bowl to face No. 24 Iowa Central on Sunday. In one other bowl, No. 34 North Dakota State College of Science will play at No. 27 DuPage in the NJCAA DIII title game.

A hearty congratulation are in order for both No. 35 Feather River and No. 38 Citrus, who both finished the season undefeated in the lower-tier ranks out west. It’s a shame they couldn’t face one-another in an American Division state title game, but perhaps the state can work out that kink in the future.

Here is the rest of the JCGridiron Dirty 30 Rankings. Just a reminder, the Dirty 30 Rankings do not include games against club teams, prep schools, non-CCCAA, non-NJCAA or non-HJCAC programs in its rankings/records.
