We have a split decision
For just the fourth time in the history of the JCGridiron Dirty 30 Rankings we have a split decision for the national title. Both Iowa Western College and Riverside City College won their respective championships with very similar resumes, thus creating a deadlock.
Iowa Western captured the NJCAA title on Wednesday with a dominating, 61-14, victory over East Mississippi College. The Reivers took the lead at the end of the opening quarter and never looked back in rolling up 29 first downs and 515 yards of offense against an East Mississippi squad that looked tired after back-to-back trips to Kansas and Arkansas.
Iowa Western finishes the season 12-1, beating five teams in the top-25 of the Dirty 30 and seven programs in the top-30 or listed on the bubble. The lone loss for Iowa Western came against Hutchinson, who finished No. 4 in the final rankings. It was the third Dirty 30 title for Iowa Western, who won the title in both 2017 and 2012.
Riverside City also finished the season 12-1, with the lone blemish being a 17-16 setback in the final minute against No. 7 Fullerton four weeks earlier. The Tigers finished with six wins against programs that finished in the top-25 in the Dirty 30 Rankings, with another win against a program on the bubble. RCC last won the JCGridiron Dirty 30 national title in 2019.
JCGridiron has been selecting a national champion since 2005. During that span, it has awarded 13 titles to NJCAA programs and 10 titles to 3C2A programs. Riverside City becomes the sixth program to win multiple Dirty 30 national titles following East Mississippi (4), Iowa Western (3), Mt. San Antonio (2), Butte (2) and San Francisco (2).
Congrats to both Iowa Western College and Riverside City College, your 2023 JCGridiron Dirty 30 National Champions!
The rest of the Dirty 30 Rankings follow. Just a reminder, the Dirty 30 Rankings do not include games against club teams, prep schools, non-CCCAA, non-NJCAA or non-HJCAC programs in its rankings.
