The 2024 season is proving to be anything but predictable, as only a handful of programs have shown domination on a weekly basis. The West Coast took another hit this past weekend and now has a new leader at the top in the Northern California ranks.
California seems to be up for grabs this season. The first four weeks have seen perennial powers such as San Mateo and Riverside City take losses while others like Butte and San Diego Mesa have been the beneficiaries. Butte made a mess of previously undefeated Modesto this weekend, 34-14, to jump up to No. 7 in the Dirty 30 Rankings while Mesa is now at No. 6 after dismantling Grossmont 40-14. Butte will host No. 44 Sequoias this week while Mesa gets a tough visitor in No. 30 Saddleback on Saturday.
The top-ranked team out west remains Mt. San Antonio, who comes in at No. 3 in the rankings. The Mounties improved to 4-0 on the season with a 41-20 victory over Citrus. Mt. SAC is likely to get a bye this week hosting San Bernardino Valley, who didn’t play this past week due to a lack of players.
Top-ranked Hutchinson nearly needed another digit on the scoreboard this weekend, beating Ellsworth 99-0. The Blue Dragons scored 59 points in the opening half as Ellsworth fell to 0-5. Hutch now gets a tougher test when they host No. 24 Dodge City this weekend.
Gulf Coast is 5-0 and cruising through the Mississippi ranks after a 41-14 beatdown of Pearl River. The Bulldogs had a 41-7 lead after three quarters before taking their foot off the gas pedal. Gulf Coast gets a bye this week.
Snow College jumped into the top 10 for the first time this season after a road win at Butler, 21-14. The Badgers are now at No. 10 in the rankings and 3-0 for the year with a big game on tap at No. 4 Iowa Western this weekend. Trips to Kansas and Iowa on consecutive weekends will be a tough challenge for a JUCO program, but one that also could vault a program in the rankings.
The Southwest Junior College Athletic Conference is completely up for grabs. Only one program from the conference is included in the top 30 after Cisco stunned Kilgore on Saturday. Cisco is No. 29, followed by Kilgore (#33), New Mexico Military (#34), Blinn (#35) and Navarro (#39) heading into this weekend.
The rest of the Dirty 30 Rankings follow. Just a reminder, the Dirty 30 Rankings do not include games against club teams, prep schools, non-CCCAA, non-NJCAA or non-HJCAC programs in its rankings.
