RCC started slow, but got their legs under them in the second quarter in steamrolling to the win. The Tigers outgained San Mateo 258-91 in the opening half, taking a 24-7 lead as time expired when Cameron Baulsley ran through three defenders and wouldn’t be denied on the final play of the half. It was a gutsy call by head coach Tom Craft, which was the kind of thing we saw from Craft and the Tigers all season.

Riverside had chances to blow the game open in the second half, but were stopped on two occasions at the one-yard line. The Tigers sealed the victory when Rey Estes stepped in front of a Luke Bottari pass and returned it eight yards for the final score of the game. In the end, Riverside held a 431-217 advantage in total yardage on Saturday, leaving no doubt as to who the best team was on the West Coast.

Riverside finishes the season 13-0, and ran through a litany of teams to remain perfect during the season. RCC went 5-0 against teams ranked in the top-25, and was also 4-0 against teams listed on the bubble. In essence, they won nine games against programs ranked in the top-50, and did it with style points. Riverside outscored opponents 645-215 for the year, averaging 49.6 points-per-game.

Riverside becomes the first program from California to win the Dirty 30 title since Fullerton College split the title with Garden City College (KS) in 2016. The last California program to win the Dirty 30 outright was City College of San Francisco in 2015. In the 15 years of the Dirty 30 Rankings, California programs have won or shared seven titles, while NJCAA programs have won or shared 10.
