This past weekend proved to be disastrous for a few programs as three of the top five programs in the rankings were knocked off in tight battles. Mt. San Antonio is the new No. 1 after improving to 6-0.
The Butler Grizzlies pulled off a big win on Saturday when they knocked off previous No. 1 Hutchinson, 27-22. The Grizzlies picked off Hutchinson quarterback Christian Johnson on the final two drives of the day to preserve the win in vaulting to the top of the Jayhawk standings. Butler moved up to No. 15 in the JCGridiron Dirty 30 Rankings as a result.
Perhaps the most exciting finish was down in Mississippi where Northwest stunned Holmes on the final play of the game when Zach Wilcke hit Keon Hutchins on a 50-yard Hail Mary pass to defeat the previously unbeaten Holmes squad, 37-35. Northwest jumped up to No. 4 in the rankings while Holmes dropped to No. 9 with the loss.
The Northern California ranks also had a shakeup when American River defeated the last remaining undefeated program in the northern half of the state in Butte in overtime. American River was down 14 points midway through the fourth quarter and rallied to tie the game in the final minutes. A missed extra point in overtime proved to be the difference. Butte dropped nine spots to No. 14 in the rankings as a result.
Mt. San Antonio is the lone remaining (upper-tier) undefeated program in the country and takes over the top spot after blasting East Los Angeles, 51-7. The Mounties get another snoozer this weekend against Orange Coast before battles with No. 22 Long Beach City and No. 5 Golden West to close out the regular season.
The top two independent programs were in action last weekend and Georgia Military defeated Snow, 31-24, in a tight battle in Utah. GMC moved into the top 10 at No. 10 with the win.
In one last note, North Dakota State College of Science and Mesabi Range both advanced to the finals of the Minnesota College Athletic Conference (MCAC) Playoffs with wins in the semifinals. NDSCS is the lone ranked program from the conference at No. 43. The two squads will play for the title next Sunday in St. Cloud.
The rest of the Dirty 30 Rankings follow. Just a reminder, the Dirty 30 Rankings do not include games against club teams, prep schools, non-CCCAA, non-NJCAA or non-HJCAC programs in its rankings.
