The 2023 campaign is on its way and a handful of teams played their first official game of the season this week. A little shakeup occurred in the top-10.
One game that had everyone’s attention was Garden City and Butler, featuring two preseason top-10 squads doing battle in the Jayhawk Conference. Garden City came out on top, 27-22, to move up to No. 6 in the rankings while Butler dropped to No. 13 with the loss.
A couple of surprises happened, but none bigger than Highland knocking off what was supposed to be a very good Coffeyville team, 20-14. The Scotties’ defense allowed just 12 first downs all day in keeping the Red Raven offense in check. Highland moved onto the big board at No. 22 as a result while Coffeyville fell out of the top 30.
The California ranks kick up this coming weekend and a handful of good matchups are on the board for week one. It’s the first test for the defending Dirty 30 champion San Mateo, as the No. 9 Bulldogs will travel to No. 24 Sierra for the opener.
