The season has reached the home stretch, and the top teams have started to separate themselves. Two more teams were bounced from the top 10 of the JCGridiron Dirty 30 Rankings with big games looming.
Nothing changed at the top of the rankings as the top seven teams all held their ground. Mt. San Antonio College remains the lone undefeated team from the upper-tier programs after cruising past Orange Coast, 62-3. The Mounties now get No. 23 Long Beach City after the Vikings lost a tough battle with No. 5 Golden West on Saturday.
Iowa Western remains in the No. 2 spot after dismantling No. 29 Butler (48-7), a program that had upset previously top-ranked Hutchinson a week earlier. The Reivers now get a breather at Ellsworth this weekend.
Riverside City is holding steady at No. 3 after winning a shootout at Saddleback over the weekend (63-46) where the two teams combined for 1,078 yards. The Tigers have a chance to wrap up a Southern League title this Saturday when they host No. 11 San Diego Mesa College.
Both Ventura College and Holmes College saw their title hopes take a serious blow this past weekend. Ventura got dumped at Bakersfield College, 45-27, and as a result dropped 18 spots to No. 26 in the rankings. Holmes was demolished by East Mississippi, 51-15, and as a result will now have to travel to No. 10 East Central in the Mississippi playoffs. The Bulldogs dropped to No. 17 in the rankings with the loss.
Congratulations to North Dakota State College of Science on winning the MCAC title on Sunday with a 30-29 win over Mesabi Range College in St. Cloud (MN). The Wildcats are now 8-1 for the season and ranked No. 41 (on the bubble).
The rest of the Dirty 30 Rankings follow. Just a reminder, the Dirty 30 Rankings do not include games against club teams, prep schools, non-CCCAA, non-NJCAA or non-HJCAC programs in its rankings.
